This society was formed in 1973 as the Rossendale Society for Genealogy and Heraldry (Lancashire). The growing society has 12 branches in the county along with one in London where members meet regularly. Membership is available for a small fee and with it comes benefits such as: a starter pack of leaflets, a free Quarterly Magazine, attend meetings in any of the branches for free, attend all of the conferences the society holds, and to use any of the societies’ resources to help with your personal research.
The service run by Lancashire Archives & Record Office includes an online catalogue ‘LANCAT’ which includes over 1.5m record descriptions, some dating from the 12th century and including church and parish records, baptism, marriage, and burial records and school records. There are a vast range of documents that may be of use to your family history research, the team are happy at the Record Office to provide advice on which documents may be helpful towards your research. The service is centred in Preston.
