This service has Archive Centres in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and Whitehaven. The service cares for parish records, church records, wills, electoral registers and many more. The archives for a plethora of families, businesses and local authorities (and more) help build a record of all aspects of life in the region. The service also provides an educational service and information and advice on the preservation and conservation of these records. There is a useful pdf document available from Cumbria Archives that details Cumbrian Church of England parish registers with some of the records going back to 1538. This document lists the individual parishes, the baptism, marriages, burials and banns and gives the dates covered. It also gives information on where the pre 1858 probate records for Cumbria are kept and dates and whereabouts of Cumbrian bishops transcripts and the pre 1974 county the parish belonged to. The pdf is located here: Cumbrian Church of England parish registers
