Founded in 1979, this society is ever expanding and now has over 2000 worldwide members. It was created as an offshoot of the Bristol and Avon Family History Society. Regular branch meetings are held in Gloucester, Forest of Dean, Cirencester and Stroud.  They have an online shop, a Quarterly Journal, own Society publications and monthly meetings in-branch. It also has a Family Research Centre built on the grounds of the Gloucestershire Archives.  The centre has 12 computers offering access to the entire census collection of 1841 to 1911, parish records, and other family history websites.  The centre also has a well stocked library of genealogical and family history books.
