Buckinghamshire Family History Clubs, Societies and Archives

The Buckinghamshire family history page of our site provides a local family history guide for those genealogists who are researching ancestors from Buckinghamshire, a small county in England, west of Greater London. We have included links to parish records, BMD records, and other local genealogical records that will hopefully assist you in your family history research.

Buckinghamshire Family History Society

This society was formed in 1976 to cater for family history researchers in the historic county of Buckinghamshire, and also local residents searching for lost relatives. The society is very active and has currently over 1600 members.

Members receive the magazine “Origins” and there are many family history documents and information for members. The society has also undertaken to transcribe and publish all parish registers (including baptisms, marriages and burials) for the parishes within the pre 1974 county of Buckinghamshire and this can be found at Bucks parish registers.

Buckinghamshire Record Office

Centred in Aylesbury, this Record Office contains family history records spanning the whole of the county, including parts of the county now in Berkshire and Milton Keynes. It also holds council and district council records, estate records and local newsletters. Many of the resources are available online.

Local newspaper archives often provide essential information that cannot be sourced elsewhere. If you have hit a ‘brick wall’ and cannot find the location or date of an ancestor’s birth, marriage or death from other records, then a local newspaper archive may give you the clues that you need. This is because local newspapers provide both a location and a date – a perfect combination for any sort of historical research.
